The Scenic Journey to Puerto Chino

Reaching Puerto Chino was an adventure in itself. A roughly 40-minute drive from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno took us through the highlands of San Cristóbal. We drove past rolling hills and vibrant greenery. The final stretch required a short hike from the parking area, along a well-maintained path surrounded by endemic vegetation. The walk was studded with amazing cacti and the echoing call of local birds. The trek, though relatively easy, added to the sense of discovery as the sounds of crashing waves grew louder with each step.

As we emerged onto the beach, the view was simply stunning. Framed by rugged lava rock formations, the turquoise water sparkled under the sun, inviting us to explore its serene beauty. Sea lions lazily dotted the beach, absorbing the evening rays of sunshine.

An Evening at Puerto Chino Beach

Puerto Chino’s pristine nature is matched by its tranquility. It’s not a crowded tourist hotspot, making it an ideal spot to relax and connect with nature. We spent time walking along the soft sand, marveling at the vivid blue hues of the ocean, and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere.

Wildlife is abundant here, as with most places in the Galápagos. We spotted blue-footed boobies perched on the rocks, their comical waddling adding a touch of charm to the setting. Sea lions lounged lazily on the sand, occasionally venturing into the waves, while marine iguanas sunned themselves nearby. It was a vivid reminder of the harmony between humans and wildlife that defines the Galápagos experience. The hike up to the booby birds was a bit rocky and requires good shoes for climbing.
